Brad Childress at Paul Brown Stadium

Former Vikings head coach Brad Childress had dinner with Marvin Lewis Thursday at a downtown Cincinnati restaurant. Fired by the Vikings in November, Childress has reportedly been a candidate for offensive coordinator positions in Miami and St Louis. Football gods of the past make it so! Could we be in the last days of Bratkowski's rein as offensive coordinator that started way back in 2001? I know some people in the Bengals fan base will find a reason to complain due to Childress being fired in Minnesota. People need to understand this is a means to an end. A change that needs to be made. The fans saying this is not good enough need to take a look at what Chilly has accomplished in the NFL as the OC of the Eagles.

Since 1978 Childress has been coaching football all on the offensive side of the ball. Childress had a very productive tenor in Philadelphia from 1999–2005 started by coaching McNabb up as the eagle QB coach. Childress had a great deal to do with the success of the Eagles that he was made the OC of the Eagles by a pretty damn smart football mind in Andy Reid. People who are only judging his worth from his time in Minnesota also may be unaware that he was a dumb pass by Favre away from reaching the Super Bowl & beating the Saints in the NFC Championship game in 09. His personnel decisions might have been the main reason he was let go by the Vikings.

The man can straight up coach and has spent his time in the NFL coaching quarterbacks and being an OC for a team that reached three consecutive trips to the NFC Championship game 2001–03 and a Super Bowl trip in 2004 with the Eagles. Take a second to think about how much of an upgrade to the Bengals staff this man would be to moment he signs a contract. Childress can help Carson reclaim his spot as a pro bowl QB. Palmer needs a change and deserves a shot at being the QB most of think he still can become in the NFL.

I am so excited that there is being an effort made by Marvin and the front office to improve. I understand the drama with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement causing concerns about making changes. I think there is no better time to look forward than now. Something of this caliber needs to happen for the Bengals to be able to erase the painful memories of the 4-11 underachieving fest that was last season. It needs to happen before the Senior Bowl if it’s going to happen.
