Okay BENGAL fans I have put together a list of my favorite draft "guru" NFL networks own Mike Mayock's top five ranking of prospects in line with the BENGALS list of needs.
I used the CBS Sports site to included the projected rounds to stay objective. I know some of my fellow draft fiends have certain players projected at different positions in the NFL. I left the list untouched.
I think this will give people a good idea at what positions of need can be addressed later in the draft and still gain a top 5 talent that position of need. I left out QB, TE and Tackles because I feel those are spots that do not need to be addressed during the upcoming draft.
Safety - Not the deepest crop outside of the players 1 and 2 would the others make the roster?
1. Mark Barron, Alabama – Projected Round 1
2. Harrison Smith, Notre Dame – Projected Round 2
3. Brandon Taylor, LSU – Projected Round 4
4. DeQuan Menzie, Alabama – Projected Rounds 6-7
5. Phillip Thomas, Syracuse – Projected Rounds 6-7
Cornerback - Huge need and this is a deeper position than safety but the 1st round guys listed are all NFL ready. Outside of Dennard and Boykins other prospects would take some time to get adjusted to the NFL.
1. Morris Claiborne, LSU – Projected Round 1
2. Stephon Gilmore, South Carolina – Projected Round 1
3. Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama – Projected Round 1
4. Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama – Projected Round 1
5. Josh Robinson, Central Florida – Projected Round 2
Inside Linebacker - I think this is a solid position of value. If the BENGALS want a plan B it could be there in rounds 3-4.
1. Luke Kuechly, Boston College – Projected Round 1
2. Dont'a Hightower, Alabama – Projected Round 2
3. Mychal Kendricks, California – Projected Round 3
4. Keenan Robinson, Texas – Projected Round 3-4
5. Sean Spence, Miami – Projected Round 2-3
Outside Linebacker - This is another not so deep class for the 4-3 OLB types. I think improving the LB core is a must but possibly resigning Lawson could be a stop gap.
1. Melvin Ingram, South Carolina – Projected Round 1
2. Whitney Mercilus, Illinois – Projected Round 1
3. Andre Branch, Clemson – Projected Round 1-2
4. Ronnell Lewis, Oklahoma – Projected Round 2
5. Shea McClellin, Boise State – Projected Round 2
Defensive Tackle - This is a very deep DT class and if the BENGALS loose Sims it should be a target in round 1.
1. Dontari Poe, Memphis – Projected Round 1
2. Fletcher Cox, Mississippi State – Projected Round 1
3. Michael Brockers, LSU – Projected Round 1
4. Jerel Worthy, Michigan State – Projected Round 1-2
T-5. Kendall Reyes, Connecticut – Projected Round 1-2
T-5. Devon Still, Penn St. – Projected Round 1
Defensive End - Once again the Giants proved again that a deep versatile D-Line can shut down the most powerful offenses. The foundation is in place in Cincy but adding to this mix of talent would pay dividends long term.
1. Quinton Coples, North Carolina – Projected Round 1
2. Courtney Upshaw, Alabama – Projected Round 1
3. Nick Perry, USC – Projected Round 1-2
4. Vinny Curry, Marshall – Projected Round 2
5. Jared Crick, Nebraska – Projected Round 2
Guard - I think we all know this is a position of need with some value outside of the DeCastro favorite possibly in round 3.
1. David DeCastro, Stanford – Projected Round 1
2. Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin – Projected Round 1-2
3. Amini Silatolu, Midwestern State – Projected Round 2-3
4. Kelechi Osemele, Iowa State – Projected Round 2
5. Brandon Brooks, Miami (Ohio) – Projected Round 3-4
Center - This a solid group of centers in this draft calls. Kyle Cook has made us forget about the the "GutCHECK" era and thank god! I feel this should be a late round target for depth and future production. I love Molk or Brewster in the later rounds.
1. Peter Konz, Wisconsin – Projected Round 2
2. Philip Blake, Baylor – Projected Round 4
3. Ben Jones, Georgia – Projected Round 2-3
4. David Molk, Michigan – Projected Round 5
5. Michael Brewster, Ohio State – Projected Round 3-4
Wide Receiver - This is a position that the BENGALS need to keep a watchful eye on in the upcoming draft. I am starting to fall in love with the idea of AJ Green and Michael Floyd. I do not see FA being the answer. Outside of the first 3 rounds the rest of the prospects are project type players.
1. Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State – Projected Round 1
3. Michael Floyd, Notre Dame – Projected Round 1
2. Kendall Wright, Baylor – Projected Round 1
4. Stephen Hill, Georgia Tech – Projected Round 1-2
5. Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina – Projected Round 2
Running Back - This is the position in the draft that has me scratching my head. There are a few RB left off of this list that I love. They are late round options but I think this needs to be as close to a sure this as possible. I feel the BENGALS must pick a RB with one of their first 3 selections.
1. Trent Richardson, Alabama – Projected Round 1
2. Doug Martin, Boise State – Projected Round 2
3. David Wilson, Virginia Tech – Projected Round 1-2
4. Lamar Miller, Miami (Fla.) – Projected Round 2
5. LaMichael James, Oregon – Projected Round 2-3
I would love some feedback on what my fellow fans think. What positions should be addressed early on in the draft and what needs can be taken care of in the later rounds? Having the opportunity to land potential starters with the first three choices this draft is huge! I myself can not wait to see what players will be added to this young talented group of BENGALS.
