After watching the very entertaining young BENGALS team sneak into the playoffs. I am counting the days until the draft is here. Trust me I wish we were getting ready to throw Super Bowl parties but it just didn't happen. How can you not feel anything but optimistic about the future of this up and coming franchise.
After the smoking hot Mike Brown regime fleeced the RAIDERS for the 17th pick in this year draft and a 2nd round choice in 2013 draft. My expectations are at an all time high. If the BENGALS pull the trigger and have another great day in the draft room. This could be the making of a championship team.
Here is my first 2012 mock focused on my beloved BENGALS!
ROUND 1: Pick #17: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama - The more I look at the board in the 1st round if the chips fall how I imagine this is possible. Kirkpatrick will fall right into the BENGALS lap. Dre would fit in nicely in the current scheme and be a very solid complement to Leon Hall. God forbid if Leon can not rebound from his ruptured Achilles tendon, the BAMA standout can hopefully step up and take over.
Pick #21: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford - I think we can all agree the play of the O-line was suspect down the stretch but closer to being a complete unit. DeCastro was nothing short of a spectacle playing a smash mouth style at Stanford. He is a force in run blocking aspect of the game and shows the ability to get to the linebackers allowing the big play to happen. Paired on the right side with Andre Smith the Bengals would have a very impressive run blocking foundation. Will he fall to 21, I think he will with only a few running focused teams in the mix.
ROUND 2: Doug Martin, RB, Boise state - I think the BENGALS are ready to part ways with Cedric Benson. Doug Martin is a fearless runner between the tackles and shows great vision. He has the speed and moves to take it to the house. Runs with a nasty pad level and delivers a punishment to defenders for a shorter running back. He has great hands and reminds me of compact Fred Jackson. This young man could be the missing link.

ROUND 3: Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State - I am a fan of Rey but at times this season I was left feeling like the BENGALS need a back up plan in case Rey never fully reaches his potential. Vontaze would be one hell of a back up plan. A standout performer at ASU but will need to be cached up once he reaches the NFL. Much like Rey the young Burfict tends to over run plays at times due to his over aggression loosing sight of his job. He plays with unmatched intensity and depending on how you feel about Rey you will either love or hate this choice. Burfict's hard-hitting style had me glued to him anytime I watched ASU play. He does have some off the field issues attached. If not he would be a projected in the 1st or 2nd round talent wise. Give Rey a shot to compete with the young Burfict and see who comes out on top.

ROUND 4: Michael Brewster, C, Ohio State - How can you not like this choice? This is would be a flat out commitment to protecting Dalton and improving the interior of this offensive line. Cook has earned his spot in the middle and played great at times. I just think it is time to take it to the next level or step aside. Brewster was a stand out performer in the Big 10 at Ohio State. Mike was a four-year starter with a very high football IQ and became the true team leader of the BUCKEYES. He is the kind of prospect who could grow into a perennial pro bowler or a very solid starter. I see very little risk in this choice.

ROUND 5: Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M - Some may argue the BENGALS should resign Simpson and use the picks on more pressing needs. I think a more consistent compliment to AJ is needed. Fuller has the ability to be a great pro. Seems to lack focus at times. Fuller has the size and speed combo coming you like to see but is he a route runner?

ROUND 6: Chris Rainey,RB, Florida - Explosive anytime he touches the ball this little guy can flat out fly. If anything by taking a chance on Rainey the BENGALS offense becomes a bit more dangerous over night. ROUND 6: Derek Wolfe, DT, Cincinnati -This is a great pick and I don't think he will be there but he is projected 5th-6th round by CBS. I love the way he plays the game and I always got the impression he left everything on the field for the Bearcats. There was a few player I took long looks at in the second and third rounds. I think if the BENGALS could snag Wolfe in the sixth it would be a steal.

ROUND 7: Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State - Hey its the 7th round choice do your own research. This bug dude can flat out play and has a shot at being a starter after a few seasons in the NFL.

That's my first attempt at mocking this years BENGALS draft. It is way to early to even guess where some of these players will go but it was fun. Safety was a spot I targeted but kept passing up players that I thought would be available. I went O-Line heavy and took two running backs. I love the first four picks and think those choices would pay dividends for years to come. I would love to read what you think my fellow BENGALS freaks.
Thanks for reading! WHO DEY!!!
